Caroline O’Breen: 'In the exhibition, The Ideal and the Actual Galerie Caroline O’Breen will show A Monkey Peeled an Onion by Marjolein Blom and Matthieu Litt’s Horsehead Nebula. Both series are about visualizing the unimaginable in their own way. The title of the show refers to the theory of Forms by the Greek philosopher Plato.'

From friday september 22nd until sunday 24th, Galerie Caroline O'Breen will present new works from my series 'A Monkey Peeled an Onion', together with works from Laurence Aegerter and an installation by Ola Lanko, during Unseen Amsterdam 2017.

For 'A Monkey Peeled an Onion' I have researched different aspects of the vacuum by examining philosophical and scientific theories about the essential nature of 'nothing'.

From today until the 31st of december Double Slit Experiment and (Anti)Matter will be on show at Het Kunstlokaal in De School, Amsterdam.

(Anti)Matter can be visited for free during concerts and club hours, just as the video works by Misha de Ridder and Charlotte Dumas. Double Slit Experiment can be visited every day of the week during opening hours of Cafe DS.

Mathis Neuhaus wrote a nice article about the exhibition for De School's Blog. You can read it here:

ART ROTTERDAM 2016

Added on by Marjolein Blom.

I am happy to participate in a group show of Seelevel Gallery, with a.o. Laurence Aegerter, Ola Lanko and Marijn Bax during ART Rotterdam 2016. ART Rotterdam will take place from February 11 until February 14 in the old VanNellefabriek. Visit the gallery at booth 54!

One of the works on show will be Hundred Years. It is a double image of the Bromo volcano, Java, Indonesia. The first image is a drawing from a more than hundred year old geography schoolbook, which I found in my father's collection of antique books. The other one, is a photograph made by me in 2009.

As this one composed image reveals, not much has changed in the hundred years that passed. Sometimes, traveling back to the past is not a hard thing to do.

Archival print on fine art paper. Size print:  18 x 24cm. Frame: walnut wood
